OUR PROJECTS: Servis Stands Guard Over Aldi Supermarkets

Updated: Feb 17, 2022

Aldi is a discount retailer with global presence. We have over 6,520 stores across 11 countries and employ over 155,000 people. Aldi currently has over 900 shops in the UK and opened its first store here in 1990.

Aldi will open another 100 stores across the UK over the next two years, as part of a £1.3bn plan to take a larger share of the British grocery market. Aldi is the common brand of two German family-owned discount supermarket chains with over 10,000 stores in 20 countries and an estimated combined turnover of more than €50 billion. The chain was founded by brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht in 1946 when they took over their mother's store in Essen.

Why Servis is Aldi’s choice for Security Solutions?

Servis is a national knowledge leader in facilities management and strategic outsourcing, providing operational management services for a wide range of public and private sector businesses.

Our nationwide coverage ensured our ability to procure and manage over 40 Aldi supermarkets in the midst of a global pandemic. Aldi reached out to us to arrange Security & Management Solutions for approximately 25 London locations and 15 locations in Wales. We were able to mobilise Dog Handling security within 24 hours and in excess of 30+ Security personnel in Wales and surrounding areas.

The Challenge

Given the outbreak of COVID-19, Aldi’s UK operational stores were facing various issues when it came to the operations, management, and security concerns. To ensure the safety of both their staff and customers Aldi reached out to Servis to arrange security for approximately 25 London locations and around 15 locations in Wales. Within 24 Hours, Servis were able to mobilise 15+ Dog Units and Handers and in excess of 30+ Security personnel.

The Solution

Our teams across the country actively managed the safe entry for shoppers into the buildings, ensuring orderly queues were formed, social distancing was in practice, shopping trolleys/baskets were cleaned and stored safely, and shoppers wore adequate face coverings. Amongst all the above, patrols were conducted both inside and outside the stores to ensure there were no thefts or fights between shoppers.

The main goal of this collaborative effort has been to assess existing levels of protection and come up with a security assurance plan for process control systems in the core production of Aldi’s facilities to ensure operational consistency.

The Response

We have found Servis a first class organisation to work with. Servis have always been able to cope with our sometimes, short notices and have provided a great service to multiple developments nationally. Control. Secure. Support.
